A huge cache of internal emails from City Hall was hacked by a third party and made public Friday, revealing the inner workings of Mayor
Lori Lightfoot’s administration in Chicago.
The select group of emails had been given to the Jones Day law firm as part of an inquiry into how the police raid on Anjanette Young’s home had been handled. The law firm transferred them to a third party as part of that investigation using a data software service when the emails were swiped. “The breach . at no time involved or impacted the city’s computers or computer system,” according to a statement from the city.
The family of the victim, Henry Young, of Lockport, said they pressed the Joliet Police Department for answers for months until an arrest warrant was issued in April.
Young’s son, John, told NBC 5 he is “ecstatic” about the arrest. But he said he’s not happy with how long it took to get to this point.
John and his mother hired licensed private detective Michael Colella to help locate the suspect.
“When we got Michael involved, we had answers right away,” John Young said.
Colella said he learned that Ordakowski was on electronic monitoring in Cook County stemming from unrelated traffic charges. He said he contacted the State’s Attorney’s Office in Cook County to try to get them to coordinate with prosecutors and law enforcement in Will County.
