U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New Hartford, fielded questions on recent votes on major legislation, Afghanistan, the coronavirus pandemic and more during a virtual town hall Wednesday night.
The town hall, held via Zoom videoconference, lasted an hour. Questions were submitted through the app’s written question-and-answer function, which were vetted and selected by her communications director.
Tenney recently celebrated her 60th day in office for her second term, following a protracted judicial review of the 2020 election in New York’s 22nd Congressional District. The congresswoman touted her early accomplishments, including introducing five bills and being one of 101 bipartisan cosponsors of the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act, which was signed by President Joe Biden and became law on March 30.

The Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act has just made the PPP forgivable loan program available until May 31, giving small businesses, nonprofits, and independent contractors another six weeks to access economic relief via the Paycheck Protection Program. Changes made in February and March also lowered several key barriers to entry and widened eligibility for more equitable access.
Sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals now have more flexibility to calculate their PPP loan amounts, making many of them eligible for the first time, or making them eligible for larger loan amounts.
