CareerOneStop lists the top employer in cities around the state and as far as Sioux Falls is concerned, the two largest employers in the state are here. Think medical. Sanford USD Medical Center leads the way with 4,958 employees, while Avera-McKennan is second with 3,574.

Two people were killed in a three vehicle accident in Cedar County Saturday night. The Cedar County Sheriffs Office says two vehicles collided head on on Highway 81 about six miles south of Yankton about 8PM. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident. The drivers of the two vehicles that collided were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the third vehicle was taken to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Ambulance and fire units from Yankton and Crofton responded to the scene. The Cedar County Sheriffs Office and Nebraska State Patrol are investigating.

Two people killed in a head on crash south of Yankton have been identified. The Cedar County Sheriffs Offices says a Buick Century driven by 64 year old Elizabeth Braunesreither of Mission Hill collided head on with a Buick LeSabre driven by 30 year old Samantha Plantenberg of Crofton on Highway 81 about five miles south of Yankton. The crash was reported about 9:40 PM Saturday night. Both of those drivers died at the scene. During the collision, a Pontiac driven by 24 year old Blake Johnston of O’Neill Nebraska struck one of the vehicles in the first crash. Johnston was treated for minor injuries and released at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Seatbelts were in use. Crofton EMS, Crofton Fire and City Police, Nebraska State Patrol along with Yankton EMS and Fire assisted at the scene. The investigation continues by the Cedar County Sheriffs Office and Nebraska State Patrol

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) As demand for Covid-19 shots slows down, health care professionals are reminding us about the importance of completing the vaccination protocol.
That means following up for a second dose for those receiving the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
“The first shot really primes your pump, in a way, and then that second shot is what gives you the longevity, what really gives you the immunity,” said Liz Healy, the Quality/Infection Prevention Director at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. “So it is very important to receive that second shot.”
