In a shocking report card, Queensland Health data shows 49 per cent of adults and 45 per cent of children were sunburnt in the past 12 months. That s nearly 2.4 million people suffering serious sun damage, with almost 10 per cent being scorched so badly they had blistering burns. But even more worrying for cancer experts is the finding that 32 per cent, or nearly a third of Queensland children, had been burnt five or more times - enough to increase the risk of melanoma three-fold.

WEATHER
Well, it has generally been a reasonably nice week across the local region this past week, with the odd shower or two here and there along with some gusty winds but mainly through the afternoons.
Looking ahead to the next few days and the forecast is for mostly sunny and very warm conditions through today and tomorrow, before we see some slight relief on Sunday with a wind direction change forecast.
Lifesavers on patrol on the Sunshine Coast have been advised of the latest COVID-19 restrictions.

Subscriber only Lifesavers patrolling at Bribie Island beaches this weekend will have wear face masks as part of a higher COVID-19 alert. Surf Life Saving Queensland has issued a circular directing the Bribie SLSC to use the bare minimum patrol numbers over the weekend while the greater Brisbane lockdown is in place. This also applies to patrols at Redcliffe, Southbank Parklands, Coochiemudlo, Point Lookout and the Moreton Island services. Masks must be worn at all times while on patrol and outside any home or vehicle, the SLSQ circular said.
