NASSAU, BAHAMAS Twenty-seven retired Ministry of Health employees were recognized for their “dedication, commitment and hard work over many years” at a recent ceremony held at Wesley Methodist Church.
The celebration was hosted by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Prenell King-Rolle under the theme “A New Beginning”.

Before the term COVID-19 was a household name, the World Health Organization had designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. It was to be a year of celebration, milestones and recruitment opportunities to encourage more people to think about nursing as a career, it turned into one of the deadliest and difficult years for nurses across the world.

In probably the most challenging year in the history of the NHS, there have been many heroes. In previous years, the nursing community in the IW NHS Trust has been recognised in the Nursing and Midwifery Awards ceremony. This year had to be different, but awards sponsor Keith Trigg, of Trigg & Co, visited as many award winners as possible to give out the 2020 awards.
