Ahead of the talks, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the government is ready to hold talks with farmers leaders with an open mind and expressed hope for positive discussions. Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had stayed the implementation of three farm laws till further orders. It had also announced the formation of a committee to hear the grievances of the farmers and the opinion of the government. Image Source: IANS New Delhi, Jan 15 : The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Monday the pleas challenging the three farm laws and also the pleas seeking the removal of farmers camping at various Delhi borders. A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprising Justices L. Nageswara Rao and Vincent Saran will take up the petitions on January 18. On January 12, the top court stayed the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders.

Farmers reject govt offer to amend laws as ninth round of talks get underway at Vigyan Bhawan

The ninth round of talks between the government and protesting farmer unions ended without any major conclusion on Friday. The meeting which continued for over five hours failed to break the deadlock over the three farm laws. Both the sides will now meet again on January 19. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railways, Commerce and Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Parkash, who is an MP from Punjab,  were present during the meeting with the representatives of around 40 farmer unions which was held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
