Ezeoke Appointed College of Surgeons President

Briefly College of Surgeons International, Nigeria Section, has appointed General (Dr.) Maurice Ezeoke as its new president in a colourful ceremony in Jos, Plateau State capital, recently. Ezeoke, Umuchu, Anambra State-born surgeon, has been making waves both at home and in the Diaspora, from Lagos, Kaduna to Liberia, Sudan and United States of America. He was onetime surgeon to State House (Aso Rock) Clinic, Abuja during the IBB regime. Meanwhile, no fewer than 79 fellows of the College were also inducted during the ceremony in Jos. The fellows included many professors in different fields of surgery and surgical specialties and sub specialties.

Nigerian Surgeons Seek Increased Funding for Health Institutions

Seriki Adinoyi in Jos The Nigerian section of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) has urged the federal government to increase funding for healthcare across the board and fix dilapidated infrastructure in health institutions across the country. The group made the call at its 54th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Jos. The surgeons recommended that action be expedited on the completion and implementation of a surgical health plan for the country. In a communiqué signed by the president and secretary of the college, Gen. Maurice Ezeoke and Professor Lucky Onotai, respectively, the surgeons commended the efforts of the current and past governments of Nigeria to provide healthcare for the citizenry. But they observed that the efforts were not far-reaching enough to deliver optimal healthcare in the country.

“Our plans are to restore this historic home, protecting the craftsmanship and priceless historic details,” J. Michael Whitted said in a text message, “while updating it with modern conveniences so a family of today can enjoy it.”  Built in 1914 on what’s now inner Lake Shore Drive, the part that will not be renamed for Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable, the mansion “provides breathtaking, uninterrupted views of Lake Michigan,” Whitted said via text. He is the Chicago-based senior vice president, corporate development for Hillenbrand, a southeast Indiana firm that started in 1906 making caskets and now has a group of manufacturing companies.
