The Executive Board of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) met via teleconference on 18 February 2021 to address a series of important topics and ratify a number of decisions.
IFSC WORLD CUP MEIRINGEN 2021
The IFSC is pleased to confirm that the inaugural competition of 2021 will take place as scheduled in Meiringen, Switzerland, on 16 and 17 April.
The mountain village in the Swiss Alps is a fixture on the IFSC calendar, one with a longstanding tradition of organising the opening World Cup of the season. This tradition was interrupted last year by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the IFSC is excited to welcome it back in 2021.
Salt Lake City to host two IFSC World Cups in 2021 Tuesday, 29 December 2020
Salt Lake City in the United States is set to host two legs of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in May 2021.
In association with USA Climbing, it is due to host the Boulder World Cup on May 21 and 22, replacing a leg that was scheduled for Munich in Germany. while the Boulder and Speed World Cup leg has been rescheduled to May 28 to 30, after it was initially due to be held from June 11 to 13. It is a great opportunity for the IFSC to host two World Cups on two consecutive weekends, said IFSC sport director Silvia Verdolini.
Sterkenberg claims African Climbing Championships gold to seal Tokyo 2020 quota Saturday, 19 December 2020
Erin Sterkenberg of South Africa has qualified for next year s postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after she won gold in the women s combined event at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) African Championships in Cape Town.
The 17-year-old controlled the final from start to finish on her way to securing the continental title.
Sterkenburg was fastest after the speed section of the competition, clocking a time of 12.52sec.
She twice finished clear of nearest challenger and compatriot Georgiana Dorward in the bouldering and lead stages to close out a dominant display.
African Climbing Championships and Tokyo 2020 qualifier begins in Cape Town Thursday, 17 December 2020
Erin Sterkenberg of South Africa topped the women s combined qualification standings on the opening day of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) African Championships in Cape Town.
Sterkenberg earned qualification at the event, which offers direct berths at next year s postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, with a total of one point, 11 clear of nearest challenger and compatriot Georgiana Dorward.
Catherine Honegger, also representing the host nation, was third.
Two quota places at Tokyo 2020, where sport climbing is set to make its Olympic debut, are on offer at the event in Cape Town.
