Cosser claims top spot in men s qualifying at African Climbing Championships Friday, 18 December 2020
South Africa s Chris Cosser qualified for the final of the men s combined event in first place at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) African Championships in Cape Town.
Cosser topped the standings ahead of compatriots Calrin Curtis and David Naude, who finished second and third, respectively.
The majority of the field was comprised of South African athletes, all of whom are seeking to book a spot in the first Olympic sport climbing competition.
Two quota places at Tokyo 2020, where sport climbing is set to make its Olympic debut, are on offer at the event in Cape Town.

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) welcomes the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has dismissed in their entirety both appeals filed by the Japan Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Association (JMSCA) against the IFSC Qualification System application.
The resolution of this procedure closes a painful chapter, one that, for the first time in history, saw the National Federation of the country hosting the Olympic Games appeal against the qualification of two of its own athletes. As a result of this decision, the integrity and fairness of the IFSC Qualification System, as approved by the IOC, have been confirmed.
IFSC secures .sport domains 12/14/20
The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and the Global Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF) are pleased to announce that the IFSC has secured a series of web domains using the .sport internet extension.
The domain is operated by GAISF and already has over 1 000 organisations registered to use the dedicated .sport domain. GAISF’s ownership protects the integrity of the extension, ensuring that only fully qualified organisations governing bodies, organisations, clubs and businesses can use it. Furthermore, to ensure that domain names ending in .sport are allocated to parties whose role matches the expectations for the respective domain name, every registration has to go through a validation process.
