Hadiza Bala Usman was suspended on May 6 from her role as head of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN) said that workers in the outsourcing sector remain at risk for contracting the virus because many works on site. Essential workers in the A4 vaccination priority group could have access to vaccines by June, the Health department said. “BPO workers do not work face to face with our clients but it doesn’t mean we are immune from the virus especially those who are working onsite. Not all clients and accounts (allow) work at home arrangements,” BIEN Vice-President for Externals Sarah Prestoza said in a statement Thursday.

OMT receives first container ship in Onne port

Share IN an important milestone for Nigeria’s port industry, Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT) has commenced container operations at Onne Port, thereby doubling Eastern Nigeria’s modern container handling capacity and providing a catalyst to the region’s economic growth. In a statement issued by OMT recently, the terminal operator revealed that on May 2, 2021, MSC Floriana, a vessel belonging to the world’s biggest shipping line, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), berthed at OMT located at Berths 9-11 at the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne Port. OMT offloaded 1297 containers. MSC Floriana’s call marked the culmination of more than one year of preparations and investment by OMT.

No dispute between Razon, Tan over mega vaccination center

Published May 12, 2021, 5:03 PM International Container Terminal Services Inc. and Alliance Global Group Inc. denied that there is any dispute between the two groups over the planned construction of a mega vaccination center on land owned by Nayong Pilipino at the Entertainment City.     Allegations against the project include claims that it will cut down trees and that a casino will be built on the property. Both AGI and ICTSI’s Razon group own casino businesses. The ICTSI Foundation submitted an unsolicited proposal to the government last March to build a temporary mega vaccination center in aid of the government’s goal to inoculate as many Filipinos as possible to curb the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and to achieve herd immunity by yearend.

Published May 11, 2021, 12:17 PM Parañaque City’s top official has backed the construction of a mega vaccination center at the Nayong Pilipino amid concerns on its environmental impact. Mayor Edwin Olivarez said in an interview on DZRH that the mega vaccination facility is not permanent in nature and will only be built temporarily for the purpose of fighting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). “May sinasabi sila doon na iyong puputulin na puno ng ipil-ipil eh malaki naman iyong lupa na iyon (They are concerned about the ipil-ipil trees that would be cut down for the project but the land area there is really wide),” he said.
