This week s pilot shipment was 1st of 5 planned trial runs between Pakistan and Central Asia.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The United States Government, along with the Government of Pakistan, launched the first international shipment from Pakistan that is compliant with the United Nations’ “Transports Internationaux Routiers” (TIR) Convention, an international customs transit system that facilitates trade by expediting border checks between countries.
The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) and Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) provided technical and financial support for the pilot project. Utilizing the international transport company TCS, this week’s pilot shipment was the first in a series of five planned trial runs between Pakistan and Central Asia. Washington DC – The United Nations convened on COVID response and development needs for vulnerable, small island and landlocked countries. The President of the Economic and Social Council, Pakistan Ambassador Munir Akram organized the high-level event to focus on countries struggling with specific disadvantages from the crisis.
“Small islands, poor countries and landlocked nations faced considerable risks and vulnerabilities before the pandemic struck,” said Eric LeCompte, Executive Director of Jubilee USA Network and one of the primary speakers at the session. “The COVID pandemic made the situation worse and too many countries are left out of global agreements to deal with the crisis.
Global supply chains already strained by the disruption caused by the pandemic have been further challenged recently by the blockage of the Suez Canal, an artery that carries 30% of the world’s container cargo each year. Agartala, March 8 : A bridge over Feni river in Tripura is set to turn the dream of the northeastern region into reality, as it would connect the landlocked region with the rest of the world through the Chittagong international sea port in Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually open the 1.888 km bridge, which is 72 km by road from the Chittagong sea port. The bridge has been built by India at a cost of around Rs 129 crore.
