Daltonganj: The on-duty nurses at the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) here were abused, intimidated and chased by the kin of a deceased Covid-19 patient who was admitted at the hospital’s GNM building for treatment. Incidentally, May 12 was observed as International Nurses Day.
The police have arrested Amar Pandey and one of his companions for the incident.
Deputy development commissioner Shekhar Jamuar, who reached the hospital around 5:45am along with sadar subdivisional officer Rajesh Kumar Jha, said: “The patient was very critical and was admitted to the GNM building on Tuesday. He was on ventilator support and passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. The kin of the patient accused the on-duty doctors and nurses of being lax about the patient’s treatment and created a ruckus.”

COVID-19 cases are rising in some Southeast Asian nations, as Malaysia and Thailand on Wednesday reported record high virus-related deaths amid the spread of highly contagious variants in the region.
Malaysia on Wednesday logged its highest number of daily new COVID-19 infections since Jan. 31, the Philippines is bracing for a potential surge in cases after the double mutant Indian strain was discovered there a day earlier, and Thailand’s Department of Corrections said almost 3,000 inmates in two prisons tested positive.
“The Department of Corrections tested for COVID-19 among all officials and inmates and found 1,040 infected in the Women s Correctional Institution and 1,795 in the Bangkok Remand Prison,” the department’s press statement said.
Qatar Care marks International Nurses Day

Qatar Care yesterday marked International Nurses Day and distributed gifts among staff working as volunteers. Qatar Care, established in 2007, is the first company to provide home nursing and medical services in the state of Qatar and first Home Care and Medical Services Agency in Qatar with the Diamond Level of Accreditation granted by Accreditation Canada International.
At the occasion, CEO of Qatar Care, Saleh Al Eida (pictured), said, “Today is the International Nurses Day, so Qatar Care as first company for home care in Qatar and whose major work is nursing, physiotherapy, taking care of elders and newborns and their mothers, participated in protocol of MoPH and gave some gifts to our staff who are working as volunteers.”
The award will recognise registered oncology nurses across Queensland who make an exceptional contribution to improving the care and outcomes for patients and communities.
