The International Day of the Midwife was celebrated at University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL) yesterday, May 5. The day focused on how local midwives have risen to the extraordinary challenge of Covid-19 to provide safe care to the women and infants of the Mid-West.
The event with its 2021 theme of ‘Follow the Data; Invest in Midwives’ serves as a prominent reminder of the importance of midwifery, and the invaluable care that midwives provide.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit thanked midwives for their work, marking International Day of the Midwife on Wednesday.
In a video message shared on the Norwegian Royal Family’s YouTube page, Crown Princess Mette-Marit said, “Midwives have one of the most important jobs in the world. You help at the beginning of life and ensure security and professionalism in one of the most vulnerable life situations for both mother and child.
“Everything is at stake.”
She continued, noting the challenges of midwifery and pointing out that they are always present and that their work “is about so much, among other things, it is about seeing everyone just as they are.”
Pastor Adeboye loses son

The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG has been reported to have lost his third child, Pastor Dare Adeboye to the cold hands of death.
It is gathered that the 42-year-old, who is the third son of the revered cleric, died in his sleep on Wednesday in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family.

According to reports, the deceased, who was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35, had ministered the previous day.
The report states that his wife, Temiloluwa Adeboye, noticed her husband’s unusual sleeping hours and could not reach him on phone. She reportedly raised the alarm and he was discovered dead. The deceased was neither sick nor on medication when the tragic incident happened.
