The widely read and anticipated weekly new unemployment claims report won’t be available because of a glitch in new technology, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said Thursday.
Initial unemployment-insurance benefit claims in North Carolina dropped last week following a short wave of increases, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday.

Gig workers, freelancers and the self-employed in the state can now begin applying for claims for an extra $300 in weekly assistance.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program of the federal CARES Act extension, or PUA, is now accepting claims for those who don’t meet the requirements for traditional unemployment compensation, but have lost work because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We know that more than 400,000 Pennsylvanians and their families are relying on these PUA benefits to get through this terrible pandemic and have worked as quickly as possible to complete the implementation and resume payments,” said Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier.
That included the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program for self-employed and gig workers, the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program that extends regular unemployment (UI) benefits up to 13 additional weeks, and the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program.
FPUC provided an extra $600 a week in federal unemployment benefits for anyone eligible for UI benefits until the CARES Act expired. The resumed FPUC program will provide $300 a week.
CDLE said it began reprograming its systems once the second pandemic relief bill was signed into law on Dec. 27, and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued guidance on Jan. 9 on resuming distribution of federal unemployment benefits.
