Continuing unemployment claims in Iowa reach highest point since October

New and continuing unemployment claims in Iowa increased the week of Dec. 27, with continuing claims reaching their highest point since October. New claims rose from 7,141 to 8,236. Continuing claims jumped from 38,023 to 43,901. According to Iowa Workforce Development, about 68.6 percent of claims were not related to coronavirus, which was down from 70.6 percent in the previous week. Construction was the largest source of claims with 2,026, followed by manufacturing with 1,698, and self-employed and independent contractors with 731. Administrative, support, waste management and remediation services had 555 claims, and the retail trade had 469 claims. It resulted in $12.9 million in standard unemployment benefits, $6.3 million in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation and $4.1 million in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

The Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) is able to offer the Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefit through the passage of the recent federal legislation the Continued Assistance for Unemployed Workers Act of 2020. DLI began paying the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Benefit (FPUC) benefit on Tuesday, Jan. 5. $3.2 million in FPUC payments were made at that time. Under the legislation, all eligible claimants will receive the additional $300 per week unemployment payment. FPUC benefit payments are fully federally-funded and the funds are added to the recipient’s state weekly benefit amount.

GDOL Issues Continued Assistance Act Payments To Over 166,000 Georgians Thursday, January 7, 2021 The Georgia Department of Labor issued over $130 million last week to Georgians in regular Unemployment Insurance (UI), Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), State Extended Benefits (SEB), and Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) payments.  The total issued included payments to almost 167,000 Georgians as part of the Continued Assistance Act (CAA) included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 providing extended benefits for claimants on PEUC and PUA.  Last week, almost 300,000 claimants received an FPUC supplement. The GDOL is still receiving federal guidance on programming the 11-week extension for over 239,000 claimants who exhausted PEUC and PUA benefits on or before week-ending date 12/26/20. The DOL reported: In the week ending January 2, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 787,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week s revised level. The previous week s level was revised up by 3,000 from 787,000 to 790,000. The 4-week moving average was 818,750, a decrease of 18,750 from the previous week s revised average.
