SD sees decrease in number of weekly initial, continued unemployment claims

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Dec 17, 2020 10:07 AM During the week of Dec. 6-12, a total of 858 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed by the Department of Labor and Regulation. This is a decrease of 46 claims from the prior week’s total of 904. A total of $833,000 was paid out in state benefits, in addition to $252,000 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), $295,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and $204,000 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits. The Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance was $120.6 million on Dec. 13. The latest number of continued state claims is 3,793 for the week ending Dec. 5, a decrease of 131 from the prior week’s total of 3,924. This indicates the number of unemployed workers eligible for and receiving benefits after their initial claim.

Initial jobless claims in regular state programs rose by 23,000 to 885,000 in the week ended Dec. 12, Labor Department data showed Thursday. On an unadjusted basis, the figure fell by about 21,000.

There were 885,000 people who filed initial jobless claims for the week ended Dec. 12, marking a 23,000 person increase from the prior week’s upwardly revised figure of 862,000. The four-week moving average of initial claims also rose, totaling 812,500, an increase of 34,250 from the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday.
