This federally-funded program helps families cover the cost of breakfasts and lunches for their children and is designed to bridge the gap left by child care centers closing and to help families who may have strained resources due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic downturn has stretched thousands of families to a breaking point, so we are incredibly grateful that the USDA will allow us to provide some relief and offer more food security to SNAP families with children who are child care aged,” said DHS Acting Secretary Meg Snead. “G

Iowa families to receive $103 million in EBT money to buy groceries

The federal government plans to send $103 million to Iowa to help families buy groceries this summer. EBT cards, which can be used at grocery stores, are part of the program formerly known as food stamps. A similar special version of the program was offered to Iowa families last summer. Authorities have not announced details, such as how the cards will be distributed.

The program is now being expanded through the summer, providing food dollars for families alongside the existing food distribution programs run by districts.
