(WHEC) Assistance is on the way for families who normally receive free school meals, but whose kids had to participate in hybrid or remote learning during the 2020-21 school year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that an estimated $2.2 billion in federal food assistance will be distributed to families starting immediately through the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. Eligible students will receive $132 in food benefits for each month they fully participated in remote learning and $82 in food benefits for each month they participated in hybrid learning this past school year. Cuomo’s announcement said families will not need to apply for the benefits. Families with eligible children that are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will see their benefits posted to that household s EBT card.
