The plan is based on the acceleration of the vaccination programme and Covid-19 cases remaining low, with a senior Minister warning it will be revised if there is a spike in infections. It includes the lifting of the ban on intercounty travel, greater freedoms for vaccinated people, a relaxation of restrictions on outdoor gatherings, and the reopening of personal services and outdoor hospitality. Ministers met on Thursday to sign off on the raft of plans that will pave the way to society and the economy reopening over May and June. The ban on intercounty travel will be lifted, personal services, including hairdressers, will reopen and the resumption of click-and-collect retail services will begin from May 10. The number of people permitted to attend religious services will be capped to 50 people.

The secretary general didn t give any specifics as to when he would waive the pay rise until, saying he would do so until the economy begins to recover and unemployment falls. Asked on Prime Time if Donnelly knew when Watt intends to take the increase, Donnelly responded: He s waived it on two criteria. So, the answer would be when those criteria change. Prime Time presenter Sarah McInerney later asked Donnelly that if, in two or three months time the population is vaccinated and the employment situation has improved, and as such the economy, if Watt would take it then. Donnelly responded: Really that s a decision for him obviously. It s really not for me to comment on.
