It s been one year since George Floyd s murder at the hands of law enforcement. As tributes flood news coverage and social media, so does the collective grief surrounding his death. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts in April 2021, but there is much work and healing needed. The trauma remains from the racist killings of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo as well as Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, and so many others. No trial verdict can restore the lives lost.

Institute gender responsive support in newsrooms Thursday May 20 2021 The recent editorial changes at the Nations Media Group Uganda (NMG-U) showed a rather common challenge the media industry grapples with. Out of the over 10 top editorial positions that were announced, only two were occupied by females.  This is a not a problem of the NMG-U or Uganda alone though. It is one the media across the world faces. According to the 2011 study by the International Women Media Foundation, globally, 73 per cent of the top management jobs in the media were occupied by men compared to 27 per cent by women. In the United States, the American Society of News Editors reported in 2013 that women accounted for only 34.6 per cent of supervising positions.
