Dr Juraj Stefak, most humble, passes away following long illness - International Table Tennis Federation

International Table Tennis Federation 26 Jan 2021 Respected worldwide as the leading name when classification was required for Para events, Dr Juraj Stefak passed away on Saturday 23rd January following a long illness, eventually losing his battle with cancer. Born in Trnava, Slovakia on Wednesday 7th February 1951 he was 69 years of age. Dr Juraj Stefak (right) with Wu Sheng at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. He attended his first classification seminar in 1997 and became an international classifier in 2001, head classifier in 2009, serving for more than 20 years; every year he spent over four weeks as a ITTF medical classifier and volunteer to perform the essential duties.

The table tennis stars, who are the top-ranked Nigerian players, will join other global icons for the events at the Lusail Sports Arena in Doha. According to the International Table Tennis Federation, the Middle East Hub will feature two tiers of the new WTT event structure with WTT Contender Doha kick-starting the tournament before players move onto the first WTT Star Contender event the following week, providing the perfect preparation for some of the world’s leading stars to be challenged by the best up-and-coming athletes in table tennis.

Chinese stars added to line-up for WTT Middle East hub Thursday, 21 January 2021 China s Xu Xin and Sun Yingsha are among the stars to be announced for the World Table Tennis (WTT) Middle East hub in Doha in March.  China has largely been absent from international sport of late due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a number of the country s top table tennis players are set to compete at Lusail Sports Arena in the Qatari capital.  The Middle East hub is set to feature two tiers of the new WTT event structure. A WTT Contender tournament is scheduled for March 3 to 6 and will be followed by a WTT Star Contender event from March 8 to 13.
