ETTU postpones Olympic singles qualification tournament to April Tuesday, 19 January 2021
The European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) has postponed the European Olympic Singles Qualification tournament to April due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.
The tournament had initially been scheduled for February 10 to 14.
New dates of April 21 to 25 have been decided for the event.
The ETTU says the event is still due to take place at the municipality of Odivelas in Lisbon, Portugal.
The ETTU Executive Committee decided on the postponement after requests from member associations and an evaluation of the current COVID-19 situation in Europe.
Continental qualification events are requested by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to be completed by April 30.
ITTF re-appoints Oshodi as Chairman of Nomination Committee
For his sterling display coupled with his exceptional leadership style, the Executive Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has reappointed Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi as the Chairman of its Nomination Committee for another term of office.
In a statement signed by ITTF Secretary-General, Raul Calin, the composition of the Nominations Committee chaired by Oshodi for the term 2020-2022 was confirmed at the ITTF Executive Committee meeting held on Monday, December 21, 2020.
Oshodi, Vice President, ITTF Africa Western Region rose from being a member of the committee as the first Nigerian and African to chair the highest committee in the world body is expected to serve for another two-year term (2020-2022) with most of its former members returning with the exception of one new member who is joining the team for the first time.

Centro Caribe Sports and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) have paid tribute to Salvadorian official Melecio Rivera, who has passed away after contracting coronavirus.
Rivera, who was 82, held various roles in both table tennis and Central American sport.
These included President of the El Salvador Olympic Committee from 1987 to 1999 and leading the Central American Sports Organization from 1990 to 1994.
Rivera was a Centro Caribe Sports Executive Board member for almost a decade, sitting on the body from 1994 to 2003.

Doha to be first World Table Tennis hub site as event dates brought forward Monday, 28 December 2020
Qatari capital Doha is to stage two World Table Tennis (WTT) events in March, as WTT pursues a hub concept in light of the coronavirus pandemic and utilises a time window vacated by the cancellation of the team World Championships.
Scheduled to take place at the Lusail Sports Arena from March 3 to 13, the WTT Contender and WTT Star Contender tournaments are to be held back-to-back.
The WTT Contender competition is set to run from March 3 to 6, followed by the WTT Star Contender tournament from March 8 to 13.
