APM Terminals welcomes largest container ship
APM Terminals Elizabeth proudly welcomes the 16,022 TEU CMA CGM Marco Polo - the largest container ship to call the US East Coast.
The previous record was held by the 15,072 TEU CMA CGM Brazil which also called APM Terminals Elizabeth last September.
“Today’s port call was made possible by APM Terminals $200 million investment in port infrastructure that helped usher in the new era of larger ships calling the United States East Coast. We are proud to partner with our customer CMA CGM – our labor partner, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) - and the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey who raised the Bayonne Bridge, enabling larger ships to enter the inner harbor, “ said Jon Poelma, Managing Director of APM Terminals Elizabeth, New Jersey.
/ Terminal B at PortMiami sits empty on May 18, 2021. No cruises have sailed with paying passengers since March 2020. Port Director Juan Kuryla thinks the cruises will get the CDC s approval to start sailing again as soon as July.
It’s a multibillion dollar question for Florida s economy: When will cruise ships set sail again with passengers?
The sun was shining. It was in the mid-80s and a decent breeze was blowing on Biscayne Bay this past week. A decent day for a cruise, but Terminal B and the rest of the cruise terminals at PortMiami were quiet.
There were no passengers bustling to board or get off the cruise ships docked. There have been no paying passengers on cruises in U.S. waters since March 2020, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ordered ships to stop sailing in the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
