Three hikers suffering from dehydration in the Deep Creek Spillway area of Apple Valley were rescued over the weekend by a San Bernardino County Sheriff s Aviation Unit.
Breanna Gil, 21; Destiny Quiroz, 20; and Nathaniel Sanchez, 23, all from Adelanto, were rescued by a sheriff s 40-King-5 helicopter crew, who transported the trio to medical personnel for evaluation, the sheriff’s report said.
The Sheriff’s Department on Monday did not have information on the physical condition of those rescued.
At approximately 2:20 p.m. Saturday, sheriff s dispatch received a 911 call from Sanchez, who requested help for his two friends who could no longer continue hiking due to dehydration.

International rotorcraft safety organizations, regional safety teams, and other global safety stakeholders are pleased to announce the establishment of the Vertical Aviation Safety Team (VAST). In cooperation and collaboration with the worldwide vertical flight community, VAST aims to achieve a vision of zero fatal accidents, providing “Safety Above All.” In pursuit of that vision, VAST will use a data-informed, consensus-based approach to better harmonize, coordinate, and implement global safety information, resources, and programs, and to support regional safety efforts.
The international vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) industry includes many groups working to reduce accidents, including regional safety teams, industry safety organizations, businesses and associations with safety components to their missions, as well as the individual operators, pilots, maintenance professionals, and others who work daily to mitigate the inherent risks of aviation.

When James Viola accepted the position of president and CEO at Helicopter Association International (HAI) in late 2019, he expected to have a long transition period as he paved the way for the association’s goals of extending its reach internationally and building on its well-established safety programs.
A year later, HAI has made strides towards those goals: initiatives are underway to strengthen the association’s presence before the International Civil Aviation Organization, establish new relationships throughout the globe, expand the membership beyond traditional rotorcraft, add new and revisit safety programs, and consolidate safety and other initiatives under a newly rebranded Vertical Aviation Safety Team (VAST).
