In Hamasâs recent attempt to eradicate Israel, the Federal New Democratic Partyâs (NDP) leader, Jagmeet Singh, has called for the Canadian government to halt arms sales to the nation. This is a continuation of the theme reinforced at the partyâs convention in April which passed similar policy resolutions. The party refused the International Holocaust Remembrance Associationâs (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism. Protesters attend a Palestine solidarity rally against board members of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) who they accuse of supporting Israeli military efforts, outside MoMA in Manhattan, New York on May 21, 2021 (Ed JONES / AFP)

The ‘official left’, in the form of the Socialist Campaign Group of MPs and the left trade union officials, have largely kept their heads down, hoping perhaps for better days ahead. Wishful thinking!
