The former site of J.C. Penney at Salina s Central Mall will be used as a temporary location for COVID-19 vaccinations of Phase 1 and Phase 2 populations in Saline County.
The Saline County Health Department, Salina Family Healthcare Center and Salina Regional Health Center announced a partnership to meet the demand for vaccinations for populations in Phases 1 and 2 in the county.
Currently the Kansas Vaccination Plan is in Phase 1, the vaccination of health care workers, long-term care employees and patients and emergency medical services workers.
Salina Family Healthcare said only Phase 1 is currently scheduled and is anticipated to last through the end of January. It also said a scheduling website will be available to handle vaccination appointments for eligible individuals. All communications about scheduled appointments will come from SFHC and its health care platform, Athena.

A man was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash in Salina Tuesday.
Salina police said at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, the man was walking north using a walking cart and was attempting to cross Crawford Street in the 1500 block of W. Crawford, just east of Choctaw Avenue.
Police said a red pickup truck that was traveling west on Crawford struck the man, failed to stop and continued west on Crawford.
The man was taken to Salina Regional Health Center with serious injuries but police said they did not threaten his life.
Police said evidence at the scene showed the truck is a 1997 to 2003 Ford pickup and police are looking at surveillance video in the area.

A teenager from Minneapolis, Kan., was injured after swerving to miss a deer Thursday on a road in Saline County.
The Saline County Sheriff s Office said at 10:35 p.m. Thursday that Dayton Randall, 18, of Minneapolis, was driving a black 2012 Buick Verano southbound on Burma Road, two-tenths of a mile north of Thorstenburg Road, when he swerved to miss a deer and went into a ditch and stuck a road sign.
The sheriff s office said Randall said he struck his head on the steering wheel and he was transported to Salina Regional Health Center. Randall was alone in the vehicle.
