Salinas Union High School District starts school Wednesday. It s a long time coming for thousands of students and staff. Students in the district are coming back full-time if they want to.The concerns, anxiety of the pandemic are still there but so is the thrill to learn in a classroom again. It is a monumentous task. There are just so many moving parts, said Kati Bassler, Salinas Valley Federation of Teachers president.It s setting up the desks in the classrooms, learning how to share space to figuring out how to enforce COVID-19 protocols.On Wednesday, 16,500 students are expected to return to in-person learning five days a week at Salinas Union High School District. Masks will be required for all inside, while outside is optional. Face coverings cannot include bandanas or neck gators.Bassler said, there will be a lot of challenges but that s life.
