DEMING – Wildcat Pride is shining on the Deming High School SkillsUSA Chapter. The chapter was recently recognized nationally as the recipient of the Models of Excellence Award. Only 24 chapters nationwide were recognized for the award as an Outstanding Chapter by the national SkillsUSA organization in Leesburg, VA. DHS SkillsUSA is the lone New Mexico chapter among the 24 selected.
The annual program recognizes the exceptional integration of personal, workplace and technical skills into SkillsUSA chapter activities. This is the highest honor bestowed on chapters by SkillsUSA, which is among the largest student organizations for career and technical education.

SAVANNAH Paralegal Studies student Rachel Waldron has been selected as the 2021 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner for Savannah Technical College.
“Rachel balances the demands of school with a full-time job as a legal assistant and is one of the top performing Paralegal Studies students,” said STC Paralegal Studies Department Head Debra Geiger. “In addition to her grades, what I respect most about Rachel is her commitment to achieve her goals. I am very proud of her and the example she is setting for current and future paralegal students.”

RINCON Nineteen-year-old Garren Ballard is passionately following a blue trail blazed by his father.
Just one week after graduating from the Savannah Technical College Peace Officer Academy on March 26, Ballard, 19, went on patrol for the first time as a member of the Port Wentworth Police Department. His father, Gilbert, is the chief of the Garden City Police Department.
“This is a lifelong dream,” Garren said Friday. “Over the years, police work is what I’ve seen and what I’ve grown up with. It’s what I’ve wanted to do.”
A new downtown mass vaccination site will increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine for those without transportation. Starting Wednesday, medical workers at the Savannah Civic Center will be able to administer about 1,100 doses a day.
The site will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offer the Moderna vaccine. Hospice Savannah is the medical provider for the site and Savannah Technical College nursing students will help with the vaccinations.
The clinic is open to Georgia residents over the age of 18.
Appointments are not required, although they are encouraged and can be made online at Vaccine.Hospicesavannah.org.
