Dec. 22 RIYADH A subsidiary of Saudi Aramco is teaming up with Google Cloud to offer its high-performance services to customers in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is joining the global network of Google Cloud Platform regions as part of a strategic alliance agreement signed between Saudi Aramco Development Company and Google Cloud this month.
Google Cloud will establish and operate a new cloud region in Saudi Arabia, while a new company will be formed after required regulatory clearances to supply cloud solutions and services to customers, Aramco said.
Google will start selling its cloud-computing services in Saudi Arabia through a deal with oil producer Aramco, a controversial move by the internet giant. The partnership gives Alphabet Inc.’s Google regulatory clearance to set up what it calls a “cloud region” in the Kingdom, the companies said on Monday. Employees at Google have called on the company to abstain from work in the oil and gas industry, citing environmental concerns, and work with authoritarian regimes. Still, Thomas Kurian, chief executive officer of Google’s cloud unit, has pushed to service the energy industry. It’s one of a handful of fields where Google is trying to chase Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. in the cloud-computing market.

Google Cloud has teamed up with Saudi Aramco Development Company, a subsidiary of oil giant Aramco, to build and operate cloud data centres in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia now joins the global network of Google Cloud Platform regions, with the JV supplying cloud solutions and services to enterprise customers, with an emphasis on businesses inside Saudi Arabia.

Aramco joins hands with global software company to boost industrial digitization
The Saudi Aramco Development Company; a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, on Monday announced it signed a joint venture agreement with Cognite AS; a global industrial software company and a majority-owned subsidiary of Aker ASA (Aker); as part of the two companies’ strategic partnership on industrial digitalization and sustainability initiatives.
The JV is one of the initiatives in the previously-signed memorandum of understanding. It will also establish a new company to focus on digitalization across industries in Saudi Arabia in particular; and the Middle East and North Africa in general.
