Majority of tickets issued in Saskatchewan for breaking COVID-19 rules remain unresolved

(Leisha Grebinski/CBC) Nearly 80 per cent of charges handed out in Saskatchewan for alleged violations of COVID-19 public health restrictions have yet to be heard, according to new data provided by the province s Ministry of Justice.  A total of 155 charges had been laid under Saskatchewan s Public Health Act as of April 30, 2021, the most recent date that figures are available for. Most of those charges, 127, are still waiting to be heard by a court or for a resolution to be reached.

Article content A ‘freedom’ rally held Saturday afternoon in Regina has resulted in 16 tickets being issued by the Regina Police Service. Regina police handed out summary offence tickets, under the Saskatchewan Public Health Act, for violation of the province’s public health order in regards to public gathering restrictions currently in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets were issued for failing to comply with the public health order by participating in an outdoor gathering exceeding the current limit of 10 people. Regina Police Issue 16 Tickets During Protest

By Brad Jennings May 9, 2021 | 8:43 AM The Regina Police Service have issued sixteen Summary Offence Tickets under the Saskatchewan Public Health Act for violation of the provinces Public Health Order, at the latest protest in the city. On Saturday, at approximately 2:00 p.m. the Regina Police Service monitored an event organized to protest the provinces Public Health Order regarding COVID-19. Approximately 200 people were in attendance at the protest, which took place in the 2100 block of Victoria Avenue. Sixteen tickets were issued for failing to comply with the Public Health Order by participating in an outdoor gathering that exceeded ten persons. This incident is still under investigation and anyone who has information to assist police is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPPS).
