Parents injured in West Bath after 2-year-old son fires unsecured handgun, sheriff says

WEST BATH, Maine A 2-year-old boy and his parents were transported to Mid Coast Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning after the boy allegedly picked up an unsecured handgun and fired it.
According to a release from Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry, deputies responded to a home at 109 New Meadows Road in West Bath just before 8 a.m. A Bath police officer immediately responded as well, along with Bath, West Bath, and Brunswick EMS, according to Merry.
Bath 2-Year-Old Injures Parents, Self with Gun From Nightstand
A West Bath couple and their 2-year-old child were injured when the child found a handgun on the parents nightstand.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff s Office was called to the New Meadows Road home at around 8 a.m. Wednesday to a report of multiple people with gunshot wounds. When they arrived, they found the 22-year-old woman with a wound on her leg, and the 25-year-old father with a minor injury to the back of his head. The child suffered a facial injury from the recoil of the weapon.
All three were transported to Mid Coast Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. According to the Sheriff s Department, the child walked into the parents bedroom, saw the unsecured handgun on the bedside table, picked it up and fired it.

A 2-year-old boy and his parents were injured Wednesday morning when the boy fired a loaded handgun left on a nightstand in his parents’ bedroom in West Bath, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrived at 109 New Meadows Road after receiving a report of multiple gunshot wounds at 7:58 a.m.
The mother, 22, sustained a “clean gunshot wound” to her leg and the father, 25, sustained a minor injury to the back of his head, according to Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry. The gun struck the boy’s face when it recoiled.
