JAMES TWP, MI Drifting along the waterways in his Starcraft fishing boat during the Freeland Walleye Festival, Robert DeBolt noticed an odd site on an uninhabited island: a marooned dog.
While DeBolt was unable to rescue the timid canine, he alerted officials to the dog’s plight. Thanks to DeBolt’s action, Saginaw County Animal Care & Control Center officers and Saginaw County Sheriff’s deputies pooled their resources and managed to bring the dog ashore, saving it from a dour fate on the small hunk of land.

April 29 (UPI) A dog spotted stranded on a Michigan island by a passing angler was rescued by animal control officers using a trap.
Robert Debolt said he and some friends were participating Sunday in the Freeland Walleye Festival when he spotted a dog wandering on Green Point Island, where the Saginaw River branches into the Tittabawassee and Shiawassee Rivers.
Advertisement My buddy was whistling at her and she stayed there and we got closer to shore and she took off running, Debolt told WNEM-TV.
Debolt said he was concerned about the dog s ability to survive on its own on the island, so he alerted Saginaw County Animal Care and Control to the canine s plight.

SAGINAW, MI Prosecutors have ruled police were justified in using deadly force against a Chesaning man who drew a BB gun on them as they were executing a warrant on his apartment in search of methamphetamine.
The Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office announced the afternoon of Monday, April 19, that Michigan State Police troopers involved in the January shooting death of John R. Neitling acted lawfully.
