CALIFORNIA The biggest effect the coronavirus pandemic had on National Police Week isn t that activities in California and elsewhere have been postponed, but the number of police officers whose lives and careers were cut short by the virus.
While their names won t be read at the National Police Officers Memorial Service until its Oct. 16 rescheduled date, they will be honored virtually during National Police Week from May 9-16 this year.
The coronavirus has been cited for six police officer line of duty deaths in California in 2021, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. Nationally, 63 of the 119 police line of duty deaths in 2021 as of May 4, just under 53 percent, have been due to the virus.
Montague murder investigation leads to Sacramento suspect arrest
Detectives have arrested a man for an August murder that occurred at a cannabis cultivation site in Siskiyou County.

YREKA, Calif. – An arrest was made in Sacramento last week of the suspect in a Siskiyou County murder investigation. The incident occurred in late August at a cannabis cultivation site in the Mt. Shasta Vista subdivision in Montague in Siskiyou County.
Detectives from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and detectives with the North State Major Investigations Team (NSMIT) served multiple search warrants on Apr. 29, 2021, in the Sacramento area. They were assisted by members of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

A 26-year-old man was arrested April 29 and charged with the 2020 murder of a San Francisco man at the site of what the Siskiyou County Sheriff s Office said was an illegal commercial cannabis cultivation site in the Mt. Shasta Vista Subdivision.
Alvin Thao of the Sacramento area was arrested as the North State Major Investigations Team, with the help of the Sacramento County Sheriff s Department, served multiple search warrants in the Sacramento area, the sheriff s office announced Friday.
Shao Huang was found dead off of Zane Grey Drive on Aug. 27, 2020, inside a makeshift living area constructed with two-by-fours and plywood, Siskiyou County Undersheriff James Randall said in March.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Several cars were hit and one person was injured following a car chase between a suspect and deputies, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff s Department.
The sheriff s department says the incident began just after 5 p.m. when deputies pulled over a car in the 1400 block of Howe Avenue. Deputies claim to recognize the suspect who was riding in the backseat of the car and had an outstanding no-bail felony warrant. Deputies say the suspect pushed the driver out of the car, jumped into the driver s seat and drove away.
