SRP released in shooting death of Diego Martin neighbour The Police Administrative Building on Sackville Street, Port of Spain Photo: Jeff K Mayers THE 31-year-old Special Reserve Police (SRP) who was held in relation to the death of a Diego Martin man was released on Monday. A police media release said he was held after the death of Kevin Benjamin on July 5. After consultation with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the SRP was released and the police were ordered to do further investigations. Police reports said the SRP shot Benjamin, 46, of Dillon Street, Diego Martin, after Benjamin allegedly attacked him with a cutlass around 6.50 pm that day.

Man surrenders peacefully after police surround home in east London, Ont

  LONDON, ONT. A man was taken into custody after police surrounded a home in the 100 block of Sackville Street in east London, north of Hamilton Road. London police say a 911 call about a man who allegedly had a knife prompted the incident that started around one o clock Tuesday afternoon. After obtaining a suspect description, police say witnesses saw the man enter a home just north of Hackett Street, and officers began negotiations. Police had been asking residents in the area to shelter inside, and people who don t live in the area to stay away. Sackville was closed north of Hamilton Road until shortly after 4 p.m. when the suspect was arrested without incident and police began to clear the area.
