The State Farm Stadium COVID-19 vaccination site has shifted to nighttime hours only as a way to avoid rising temperatures in Arizona.
The site closed Sunday to accommodate the change, opening again at 5 p.m. that day for what will be its regular hours for the next three weeks.
It will operate from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. until April 23, when it will shut down completely.
The Arizona Department of Health and Services tweeted a photo on Sunday morning of the empty stadium in preparation for the change.
All state-run vaccination sites combined administered their 1 millionth vaccine dose on Monday, according to the department. Nearly 700,000 of those have been administered at State Farm Stadium. It is one of the largest mass-vaccination sites in the country.

Arizona is transitioning to new venues to distribute COVID-19 vaccines while helping those in line for the vaccine avoid the summer heat.
A new site is inside Dexcom’s giant building north of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The drive-thru, indoor site opened Monday and is expected to eventually provide upwards of 3,000 to 4,000 vaccines a day.

Phoenix, Arizona - Arizona’s largest vaccination site at State Farm Stadium, described as a “national model” by President Biden, will transition to an indoor site at Gila River Arena in Glendale on Friday, April 23 as temperatures heat up in Arizona.
Home to the Arizona Cardinals, the State Farm Stadium site has administered more than 632,000 doses since opening January 11. It has become one of the largest mass-vaccination sites in the country, providing more than 10,000 doses per day this past weekend.
The new site will keep up the momentum as COVID-19 vaccine appointments move from the outdoor, drive-thru site at State Farm Stadium to a new, air-conditioned venue just down the street at Gila River Arena. Both venues are managed by ASM Global.

COVID-19 vaccination site in
Mesa on April 5 as temperatures are expected to rise in the upcoming summer months, according to a news release from the state department of health.
The distribution center, located near the Loop 202 and Power Road, will serve as a replacement for the state-run site currently operating at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Those who received their first dose at the college will receive their second dose at the new site when it opens.
The announcement comes on the same day the state opened the indoor drive-thru location in Mesa to replace the site at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
