Prosecutors with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are reviewing the case for a midday shooting in a gated Sand Canyon neighborhood involving a retired Sheriff’s Department official and a man suspected of crashing his way into the upscale east side enclave.
The case has been presented to the D.A. regarding the Jan. 11 incident and, in the case presented, charges were recommended for the person shot and not the shooter, according to Lt. Charles Calderaro with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.
Witnesses of the shooting and previous statements from Sheriff’s Department officials described the following circumstances:
Nearly 40 Cited In ‘Primary Collision Factors’ Traffic Operation In Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station motor deputies issued over three dozen citations during a “Primary Collision Factors” Traffic Operation last week in an effort to prevent traffic collisions within Santa Clarita.
During the Primary Collision Factors Traffic Operation, motorcycle deputies looked for drivers who were speeding or driving distracted, and issued a total of 38 citations, Sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post Friday.
Within the operation, 24 citations for speed were issued, as well as 10 citations for failure to properly stop at a stop sign and four citations for using a cellphone while driving, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“Now that Santa Clarita 2020 has been completed, the accomplished items have drastically changed not only the look of the community, with some of the City’s most beneficial projects coming to fruition this year, but also improvements in the way the City provides services,” Friday’s statement reads.

Man Barricades Himself In Bus After Reported Robbery In Stevenson Ranch
A man barricaded himself inside of a charter bus after reportedly attempting to rob an individual at a nearby hotel in Stevenson Ranch on Thursday evening.
Just after 6:40 p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of a possible robbery at the Fairfield Inn on the 25300 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.
“The suspect actually went there and tried to rob a female for her purse,” Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Justin Diez told KHTS on scene.
Sheriff’s officials added that after the reported robbery attempt, the male suspect proceeded to a nearby charter bus, where he barricaded himself inside for several minutes.
Assault Suspect In Custody After Reported Skateboard Attack In Stevenson Ranch
A transient was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on felony assault charges after he allegedly swung a skateboard at a person during an argument in Stevenson Ranch.
Around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to The Old Road and Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned during a verbal argument, the suspect swung a skateboard at the victim’s upper torso,” Arriaga said.
The victim did not sustain any injuries, according to Arriaga.
