Just a week ago, only certain school staff were able to receive their COVID-19 vaccines but that s not the case now. According to the county superintendent of schools, the supply has picked up. You know, we had to really respond to a limited vaccine and at that time. the response was to say, who are the most at risk?” said Dr. Susan Salcido, Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools.

All Santa Barbara County school staff expected to schedule first vaccine appointments by end of March

After a sluggish start to 2021, Santa Barbara County’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout has picked up the pace.  With an increase in supply, the Santa Barbara County Education Office expects all staff serving students in transitional kindergarten (TK) through twelfth grade slightly more than 10,000 individuals will have an opportunity to schedule a first-dose appointment before the end of March. “I think it’s very realistic,” Sansum Clinic chief medical officer Dr. Kurt Ransohoff said. “Our experience is that teacher’s have been incredibly good about getting vaccinated.” Last week, Sansum Clinic received 800 doses of doses of Johnson & Johnson s COVID-19 vaccine.

Santa Barbara County is picking up the pace of getting teachers and school staff vaccinated for COVID-19. Santa Barbara County Education Office officials say they expect to have all staff serving students in transitional kindergarten  through twelfth grade scheduled for a “first-dose appointment by the end of the month. The vaccine is expected to add an extra layer of protection for teachers. Beginning Monday, several thousand vaccine appointments are expected to open at Lompoc Valley and Marian Medical Centers.
