Santa Maria police have issued four citations during the two nights since implementing a special enforcement effort to crack down on illegal fireworks regularly filling the sky.
On Wednesday morning, city officials said police had issued two citations, each with a $1,000 fine, for lighting illegal fireworks the night before.
Police officers witnessed both incidents, with one of the suspects also being caught on video by a resident, according to public information manager Mark van de Kamp.
On Thursday morning, the city reported that another two citations had been issued for possession of illegal fireworks.
