Seven suspects were arrested Tuesday by Santa Barbara County sheriff s deputies in connection with a string of reported theft-related crimes in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Goleta.
At 6:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of La Mesa Plaza and Santa Rosa Lane in Carpinteria, according to sheriff s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.
When sheriff s deputies arrived at the scene, they contacted Jason Orth, 23, of Carpinteria “near the vehicle that was not registered to him,” Zick said. “Deputies in the Santa Barbara area checked with the registered owner in the 5300 block of Traci Drive and found that the vehicle had been stolen but not yet report(ed).”

The cities have asked for additional information from the county to analyze the data leading to the higher costs.
In addition to the new higher rate for next year, the cities balked at so-called “true-up” costs for 2019-20, through which the county seeks the difference between the estimated and actual costs for service.
“The sheriff’s department has applied those true-up costs but has included major issue here in the current year billing that patrol hours are a part of the true-up billing. Of course, that’s not the case; it’s not part of the contract. That affects the current year and going forward,” Durflinger said.

Zick told Noozhawk that those arrested were not targeted for any purpose other than violating the penal codes, not for their race or ethnicity.
Those arrested reportedly ranged in age from 20 to 70, and as of 2 p.m., all had been released.
Orlosky had a brush with danger the day prior. At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, he and another demonstrator attempted to block the gate. A bulldozer, he said, pulled up to just a couple of inches from him. All of a sudden, it got real, Orlosky said.
Santa Barbara community organization El Centro immediately set up a fund to help those who were arrested. It is calling on the sheriff s department and Santa Barbara County Supervisor Gregg Hart to drop all charges.
