Commercial Burglary Arrest

On July 18, at approximately 5:26 a.m., Santa Monica Police Officers responded to a burglary in process at a bike store in the 2900 block of Main Street. The owner of the shop was monitoring the store via security cameras and reported several subjects inside the store. Arriving officers set up a perimeter and contacted one of the subjects, later identified as 19-year-old Sergio Garcia of Los Angeles, to the rear of the location. Garcia was standing behind a sedan, unsuccessfully attempting to close the trunk of the vehicle with two bicycles sticking out. Another subject, 25-year-old Chris Hernandez also of Los Angeles, was apprehended as he fled southbound down the alley west of Main Street.
Man arrested for lighting police car on fire

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges on George Joosten, a 32-year-old white male, for lighting a police vehicle on fire.
On February 25, 2021 at approximately 6:04 p.m., Santa Monica Police Officers were investigating a robbery incident and detaining the involved suspects at the 4th Street Metro train station. One of their unmarked police vehicles was left at the intersection of 5th and Colorado with its emergency lights activated. A male suspect, unrelated to the call officers were investigating, was observed by witnesses jump on top of that vehicle, pour an unknown substance over the hood, then igniting it on fire. The suspect fled the area before being stopped by officers. Witnesses positively identified Joosten as being the person causing the arson. The fire was extinguished by police personnel utilizing a fire-extinguisher.
