A committee tasked with evaluating the name of Luther Burbank Elementary School in Santa Rosa is sticking by the name.
They cite a recent survey in which respondents were asked to name three words that represented the school community and whether Luther Burbank represents those values. Of those who took the survey, 95-percent answered, yes, he does. Additionally, the committee could not decide on whether Luther Burbank was a signatory on an anti-Chinese petition in 1886, arguing it could’ve been his brother. The naming committee is expected to present their full findings to the Santa Rosa City School Board on May 26th.
