SANTEE  A natural gas leak at a Santee shopping center forced authorities to close a parking lot Monday afternoon. The gas began to spew when a construction crew ruptured a gas line about 2:25 p.m. in the parking lot of Santee Trolley Square, near a Chili’s Grill & Bar, on Mission Gorge Road near Cuyamaca Street, Santee fire Chief John Garlow said. Patrons and employees at the Chili’s were asked to shelter in place until San Diego Gas & Electric crews shut off the gas line. Garlow said SG&E crews shut off power in addition to gas service to some businesses because the broken line was near a transformer.
