A LONG LINE OF CARS STRETCHED ALONG EAST EARHART AVENUE FILLED WITH PEOPLE EAGER TO GET THEIR SHOTS. ONE HUNDRED COUNTY STAFF MEMBERS HELPED GIVE VACCINES MOSTLY TO IN-HOME HEALTH CARE WORKERS. THE COUNTY SAYS THEIR GOAL WAS TO HAVE 1000 PEOPLE VACCINATED BY 4:00 P.M. THEY ENDED UP VACCINATING 1600 PEOPLE. STILL THEY SAY THEY HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. COVID-19: Central, Southern California likely to have lockdown orders extended

Record news services LOS ANGELES  State officials are expected to extend the strictest stay-at-home orders in Central and Southern California as hospitals in those regions are quickly running out of intensive care unit beds for coronavirus patients ahead of the presumed post-holiday surge. The situation is already dire, and the worst is expected to come in the next few weeks after Christmas and New Year’s travelers return home. California hit 2 million confirmed coronavirus cases on Christmas Eve, becoming the first state to reach the grim milestone. The stay-at-home orders for the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California are set to expire Monday they were first imposed three weeks ago but Gov. Gavin Newsom has signaled they would not be allowed to lapse. State officials said Sunday afternoon the orders were likely to be extended but did not make a definitive ruling.

One teacher being out due to illness of any sort can cause a domino effect, according to Ripon Unified Superintendent Ziggy Robeson. “We do have a healthy substitute teachers pool and we always welcome more help,” she said at Tuesday’s school board meeting. There are still challenges for RUSD as well as other school districts, including trying to find a substitute available for two straight weeks to 10 days.
