The FBI in San Francisco is implementing new strategies to combat hate crimes after two Asian women were stabbed at a bus stop in the city earlier this week.
The San Francisco division of the agency announced on Thursday that it planned to ramp up investigative resources, improve coordination with law enforcement partners, increase community outreach and expand public awareness around hate crimes. FBI San Francisco is surging our resources to combat hate crimes, and we will use all authority granted to us by federal law to investigate civil rights violations, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel said in a statement.

Meza s left hand had been freed from his waist chain after he asked to use the restroom, a county Sheriff s Department statement said
Thompson was set to be arraigned on Friday afternoon, however, he refused to come to court from jail, Thompson s attorney Deputy Public Defender Eric Fleischaker said in court. The arraignment has been continued to Monday.
In addition to the attempted murder, assault and elder abuse charges, Thompson is also facing enhancements for great bodily injury, great bodily injury on elders and personal use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, he could potentially be sentenced to life in prison, prosecutors said. San Francisco District Attronery Chessa Boudin said he will present two counts of first degree attempted murder and several other felonies against a man accused of stabbing two Asian women at a bus stop. The man accused of stabbing two older Asian women in San Francisco on Tuesday has been charged with two counts of premeditated attempted murder and various other felonies, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Prosecutors will also ask that suspect, 54-year-old Patrick Thompson, be held in jail while he awaits trial, officials said. District Attorney Chesa Boudin plans to personally represent the prosecution at Thompson’s arraignment Friday.
