DA Boudin files criminal charges against SFPD officer in 2019 beating of Black man

DA Boudin files criminal charges against SFPD officer in 2019 beating of Black man FacebookTwitterEmail San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin filed felony battery and assault charges Monday against a police officer he said unnecessarily and violently beat a Black man at Fisherman’s Wharf last year. Terrance Stangel is the third current or former SFPD officer that Boudin is prosecuting in a use-of-force case as part of his campaign to hold police accountable for wrongdoing. A judge on Monday signed a warrant for Stangel’s arrest, and Stangel’s attorney said the officer will surrender and fight the charges. “Officers responding to a call have a duty to promote public safety not to turn to violence as a show of authority,” Boudin said in a statement. “This case is an example of an officer unnecessarily escalating a situation and then violently beating a Black man whom he had no legal basis to even arrest.”

Attorney for SFPD Officer Charged In Beating Says DA Can t Get His Facts Straight

Attorney for SFPD Officer Charged In Beating Says DA Can t Get His Facts Straight The attorney representing a San Francisco Police officer whom District Attorney Chesa Boudin charged with assault and battery on Monday has shot back with a statement saying her client acted lawfully in the 2019 incident in question. Boudin announced the charges on Monday against Officer Terrance Stangel stemming from an October 6, 2019 encounter in which Stangel and his partner, Officer Cuahtemoc Martinez, were called to the scene of what a witness allegedly described as a domestic violence incident. The incident happened during Fleet Week last fall, when 32-year-old Dacari Spiers says he had come to Pier 39 to watch the air show with his girlfriend and cousin. That evening, near the intersection of Powell and Beach streets, Stangel and Martinez were responding to a report of a person being strangled.

Los Angeles Voted For More Crime — And They re About To Get It Good And Hard

Posted By Ruth King on December 10th, 2020 The acerbic wit and writer H.L. Mencken once famously said, “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” The good people of Los Angeles are about to find out exactly what he meant. In November’s election, the city’s voters had the poor judgment to elect a George Soros-backed district attorney, far-left “justice reform advocate” George Gascon. They’ll be paying for their mistake for years to come. The payment is coming due already, thanks to the socialist billionaire Soros. The Cuban-born Gascon had already served as both chief of police and district attorney in San Francisco, where he basically stopped prosecuting many crimes.
