The long-term California experiment in unrestrained leftism continues apace. Los Angeles new District Attorney, a Bernie Sanders supporter, has made an early splash by preemptively announcing that his office won t prosecute certain crimes deemed to be low level. Many small government conservatives can get behind the notion of less state intervention in certain realms, and prioritization of resources is always part of the job. But this is quite a roster of effectively unenforceable crimes:

Steve Cooley Warns of Rise in Crime, Animal Cruelty, under New Los Angeles DA George Gascón Details
ANIMAL WATCH-Steve Cooley, the popular Los Angeles County District Attorney who served from 2000 to 2012 and who created the DA s animal cruelty prosecution program, has been speaking out publicly and candidly expressing his serious concerns about the election of George Gascón to head the D.A. s office.
Cooley s concerns extend to public and police officer safety, as well as animal cruelty/abuse, under an administration he calls a “predictable disaster.” Cooley served as an LAPD Reserve Officer for five years prior to joining the District Attorney s Office.

This marks the third SFPD officer to be criminally charged or indicted in less than a month.
Officer Terrance Stangel faces felony charges for beating Dacari Spiers with his baton on October 7, 2019. Charges against Stangel include assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, and assault under color of authority.
Spiers, whose leg and wrist were broken in the beating, had alleged through his attorneys that he was attacked for no reason.

Transitional Age Youth Unit
Launched in 2009 our Adult Probation Department maintains a special unit for 18- to 25-year-old probationers call the Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Unit. With staff trained in young adult development and trauma-informed approaches, the TAY Unit:
Works with clients to develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans (ITRP) based on the risks, needs, and emotional development of each client
Regularly reviews and adjusts plans
Connects clients with developmentally appropriate programs and resources across the city
The TAY Unit also conducts evidence-based programming specifically geared toward the cognitive-behavioral challenges for young adults. The unit has demonstrated remarkable results, including a 73 percent completion rate.

Gavin Newsom is, in my opinion, a uniquely untalented individual who finds himself as Governor of California through a combination of happenstance and good luck.
He grew up in Marin County, California, but seemingly not in a privileged way. His father William was an attorney, but the benefit of being William Newsom’s son for Gavin is that his father went to high school with two sons of J. Paul Getty. He later did some legal work for Getty Oil, but the Newsom family has benefitted from his longtime friendship with Gordon Getty whose interests have always been in music. William Newsom came to be involved as a director/trustee in many Getty related enterprises, and personally managed the assets and investments of Gordon Getty.
