2-vehicle collision occurred on Central Road in Apple Valley

A 57-year-old driver of a Mazda 6 was killed in Apple Valley after he crossed into an opposite lane of traffic and crashed into a Jeep Wrangler on Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. near the intersection of Powhatan and Central roads, the San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department said. Deputies, as well as personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response responded to the scene.
Authorities believe the deceased man, who was headed south on Central Road, crossed into the northbound lane for reasons that are under investigation and collided with the Jeep head-on.

Authorities ask for public’s help locating missing woman in Morongo Valley
The San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department - Morongo Valley Station is asking for the public s help in finding a woman who was last seen Monday, June 28.
Lauren Cho, 30, was last seen Monday at around 3 p.m. in the area of Hoopa Road & Benmar Trail in Morongo Valley on foot.
Cho was last seen wearing a yellow tee shirt and jean shorts.

A town hall will be held next month in Phelan to allow residents to question elected representatives on “community safety” with a focus on illegal marijuana cultivation.
The Phelan Piñon Hills Community Services District is scheduled to host the event at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Phelan Community Park.
U.S. Rep. Jay Obernolte, San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon, Undersheriff Shannon Dicus, District Attorney Jason Anderson, State Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, Assemblyman Thurston “Smitty” Smith and Assemblyman Tom Lackey are all set to attend.
San Bernardino County Supervisor Paul Cook has also been invited, the community services district said.

Those wishing to be considered for the Office of San Bernardino County Sheriff can submit their applications until the end of the month.
Applicants must meet certain qualifications and a combination of full-time law enforcement experience and education.
The position will be vacated by Sheriff John McMahon on July 16. He has led the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 2012 and announced his retirement on June 18.
“For the last 36 years I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most dedicated and hard-working law enforcement professionals,” McMahon said in a video. “The 8 ½ years serving as your sheriff has been an honor and a privilege, a responsibility that I have taken very seriously.”
