Apple Valley man dies after being struck by two vehicles on Highway 18

A 55-year-old Apple Valley man was struck and killed by two vehicles on Highway 18 early Tuesday morning.
The man was only identified as being of Asian descent in a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department statement.
According to the sheriff’s department, emergency personnel responded shortly after midnight to an area of the highway east of Rancherias Road in Apple Valley.
Video taken at the scene shows that the incident occurred near the Taco Bell in a shopping center that also houses a Walmart, O Reilly Auto Parts, McDonald s and Albertsons Grocery.

Authorities arrested Ervin Padgett, 37, in Las Vegas on Dec. 2 after he was discharged from a hospital, the San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department said in a statement released Monday. Sheriff s spokesperson Jodi Miller said Padgett is expected to be extradited to San Bernardino County this week. On Dec. 8, local prosecutors charged him with the murder of his wife, U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Rebecca Padgett, court records show.
Detectives are conducting a murder investigation after a Rancho Cucamonga man was found dead in his apartment, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriffâs Department.
On Dec. 12, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station were called to a residence in the 11600 block of Church Street.
The body of the victim, Mark Mondaine, 36, was discovered at the location by a family member. Deputies noted some suspicious circumstances at the scene and requested homicide detectives to conduct the investigation.
Detectives determined that a family member spoke with Mondaine on the night of Dec. 11, and when the family member was unable to reach him following that conversation, the family member went to his apartment the next day.
A one-year-old boy was allegedly abused by a teenage girl in Fontana, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department.
On Dec. 6 at about 1 p.m., deputies from the Fontana Sheriff s Station received a call for service regarding several videos of a child being abused that were posted on a personal social media page. The videos revealed someone slapping a small child across the face and the child s head being bounced against a mattress several times.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was identified as the victim s 14-year-old sibling and the incident took place in the 18000 block of Athol Avenue.
