A body found this week in Joshua Tree National Park has been identified as a missing 20-year-old hiker from Oceanside.
Joseph John “Joey” Alvarez Espinosa was last seen when a family member dropped him off near Joshua Tree National Park for a hike on May 16.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday, they found a body in the open desert of the park’s Wonder Valley area, southeast of Ironage Road and State Route 62, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s officials confirmed Thursday that the county coroner’s office had identified the body as Espinosa.
