If the recent burn areas in Southern California receive the rainfall amount predicted, there is a potential for flooding, as well as mud and debris flows and a strong possibility of mudslides, according to San Bernardino County Fire.

California winter storm mudslides cause injury, damage

Heavy rains along the Central Coast triggered mudslides and debris flows, trapping a woman inside her home Wednesday near Salinas, Calif. The woman was able to escape and suffered moderate injuries, Monterey County Regional Fire District Deputy Fire Marshal Dorothy Priolo said. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released. The winter storm also damaged at least 25 other residences, sheds and stables nearby, Priolo said. About 50 animals, including horses, were rescued by the Monterey County chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who assisted residents in moving the animals to safety.

2 teens arrested after fake handgun is used during carjacking in Victorville Victorville Daily Press San Bernardino County Sheriff s officials recently arrested two teenaged boys after the pair allegedly used a fake handgun to carjack victims in a neighborhood near the Mall of Victor Valley. On Monday, the Victorville Sheriff’s Station reported that the Jan. 21 carjacking occurred near the corner of Ironstone Avenue and Ironstone Place. Both streets are located in a residential neighborhood of Victorville, about two miles northwest of the mall.    Deputies responded to the scene at 4:48 p.m. Jan. 21, according to a sheriff s press release. An 18-year-old man reported that two men stole his 2010 Chevrolet HHR, a compact SUV, as well as cell phones belonging to him and his two passengers an 18-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy.

Hesperia shootout suspect pleads not guilty to 5 felonies Victorville Daily Press A 39-year-old Hesperia man allegedly caught on video in a shootout after trying to force entry into a victim’s home pleaded not guilty to five felonies Wednesday, including murder. While court records show that prosecutors charged Erick Javier Contreras with murder, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Taylor Reynolds, of the Hesperia station, said Contreras is not accused of murder, but attempted murder. An inquiry left with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office was not returned Thursday. “In regard to his charges, it should be attempted murder for the incident,” Reynolds said in an email Thursday.
